AI strategy & governance at a glance
AI strategy & governance is about introducing AI such as Microsoft Copilot and other generative AI solutions in an organization without it becoming random or uncontrolled. It ranges from identifying the right use cases to making sure that the use of AI complies with legislation and the company's own guidelines. The field is the link between the technology and the organization and is aimed especially at managers, project managers and administrators responsible for driving AI initiatives.
From use case to business value
Many organizations start with scattered experiments but never take stock: where do generative AI, Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI actually create value, and where is the gain mostly noise? You learn to identify and prioritize use cases based on business value and feasibility, build a business case that can be verified, and set up metrics so the impact can be documented instead of staying at the level of gut feeling.
Governance and accountability
Who can make which AI decisions, and how are those decisions followed up on? You get an approach for establishing clear guidelines: who owns AI solutions and AI agents, how new uses are approved, which data can be used for what, and how the solutions are reviewed over time. Good governance isn't a brake; it's what enables the organization to say yes quickly, because the guidelines are already in place.
Managing Copilot and agents
When Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI agents are rolled out, administration gets concrete: licenses and access have to be managed, and the underlying data has to be secured. Copilot can see whatever the user can see, which exposes gaps in permissions management that may have gone unnoticed for years. At the same time, you need to be able to monitor, approve and revoke agents. You learn to administer a modern AI platform alongside traditional Microsoft 365 administration. Using the tools themselves is covered in Generative AI & prompt engineering, and building the agents is covered in AI agents.
Risk, responsible AI and the EU AI Act
AI models can carry over biases from their training data and fail in unforeseen ways, and regulation is tightening: the EU AI Act sets requirements based on risk level, from prohibited uses and high-risk systems to requirements for AI literacy among employees who work with AI. You learn to identify the key risks in your own uses of AI and prepare your organization for the requirements without slowing down everyday use of AI.
Adoption and skills
An AI strategy doesn't succeed through purchasing alone. The payoff comes when employees actually change the way they work, and that takes training, good examples and visible support from management. You learn to plan the rollout and skills development so that the AI tools are used well by many, not just impressively by a few.
