Microsoft Fabric is a modern data and analytics platform that brings the entire data journey together in one solution – from data ingestion to analysis and visualization.
Fabric builds on technologies such as Power BI, Azure Synapse, and Data Factory and brings them together in one shared, cloud-based environment. The platform is designed for data engineers, BI specialists, and analysts alike, and makes it possible to collaborate on data across teams and tools.
OneLake – one unified data layer
Fabric introduces OneLake, a central data layer used by all workloads in Fabric.
It works like a “OneDrive for data,” where all users work with the same data, whether they use notebooks, pipelines, reports or semantic models. This eliminates silos and ensures consistency and collaboration.
Lakehouse – structure and flexibility
With the lakehouse architecture, Fabric combines the flexibility of data lakes with the structure of data warehouses.
This provides a scalable, flexible approach to storing and modeling data – without locking users into traditional data warehouse structures. A lakehouse makes it easy to support advanced analytics, BI and machine learning.
Power BI is integrated
Power BI is fully integrated into Microsoft Fabric, so you can visualize and analyze data directly in the same platform.
This means you can go from raw data to interactive dashboards without switching environments. Power BI reports can be built directly on top of Lakehouses, Warehouses, or Real-Time Datasets in Fabric.
Data Factory and pipelines
Fabric includes a new version of Data Factory that lets you create dataflows and pipelines directly in the Fabric environment.
It is an intuitive way to retrieve, transform and move data – with support for both low-code and code-based approaches. Pipelines can be used for both one-time runs and automated data refreshes.
