About R
The language for mathematical analysis
It is used by many millions of data scientists and is the world's most popular programming language for statistical computing.
R, from 1993, is an implementation of the S language, which was defined back in 1976 at Bell Labs. R is free software released under the GNU GPL license.
Certification bundles in R
In addition to R itself, there are more than 8,000 extension packages that can be downloaded for free from the 'Comprehensive R Archive Network' (CRAN). These include packages that can import data from the competing products SAS and SPSS.
A major advantage of R is that it is cross-platform compatible and runs the same way on Windows, Mac, and Linux with the same IDE, RStudio.
Graphics and data sources
R is used for things like creating polished, publication-ready charts, and you can build interactive web apps with Shiny directly from R.
Data can be imported from many different sources, including a wide range of databases, Excel and Salesforce.
