Description

SQL is the key to understanding, analyzing and manipulating data in relational databases, whether you work with reporting, data processing or system integration. This introductory course gives you a solid, hands-on introduction to the SQL skills you need to retrieve, combine and process data professionally.

You get a thorough understanding of how SQL queries are built, from choosing the data source with FROM to selecting and filtering with SELECT and WHERE. You learn to sort and group data with ORDER BY and GROUP BY, and you get to grips with key aggregate functions such as SUM, AVG, MIN, MAX and COUNT.

We also cover how to combine data from multiple tables with JOINs, handle NULL values correctly, and use subqueries to analyze more complex data sets. You also learn to update, insert and delete data in the database, and how VIEWs can be used to structure and reuse queries efficiently.

Along the way, we look at SQL’s logical order of processing and common pitfalls, such as integer division, NULL logic and syntax errors, and you learn best practices that make your code easier to read and maintain. The course is vendor-neutral and follows the SQL standard, so you learn syntax and techniques that work across databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL and more.

After the course, you can:

  • Write precise and efficient SQL queries
  • Select and filter data with SELECT, FROM and WHERE
  • Sort and group data, and use aggregate functions
  • Combine data from multiple tables with JOINs
  • Use subqueries to analyze and structure data
  • Update, insert and delete data in the database
  • Avoid classic mistakes and follow SQL best practices
  • Write code that is readable, robust and easy to maintain

The course is ideal if you work with data, for example as an analyst, developer, controller or administrator, and want a basic but thorough introduction to SQL that makes sense in practice.
