Description

AI-200 is Microsoft's new official developer course for Azure and replaces AZ-204 Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure.

Where AZ-204 covered classic Azure development broadly, AI-200 focuses more sharply on the building blocks used in modern AI applications: containerized compute, vector-enabled databases, event-driven pipelines, serverless functions, and distributed observability. The course is aimed at developers who build backend and AI-powered applications on Azure and want hands-on experience with the entire stack behind a production-ready AI solution.

You start with the compute layer, where you learn to package applications in containers and deploy them to Azure Container Registry, App Service, Container Apps, and Azure Kubernetes Service. You learn how to configure, scale, monitor, and troubleshoot containerized AI workloads, and how to use KEDA for event-driven autoscaling.

Next, we dive into the data services that support AI: Azure Database for PostgreSQL with the pgvector extension for storing and searching embeddings, and Azure Managed Redis for caching, pub/sub messaging, Redis Streams, and vector similarity search. You learn to design retrieval patterns that can be part of RAG pipelines and to tune performance for large vector datasets.

On the messaging and integration side, you work with Azure Service Bus to decouple AI components and handle inference requests using competing consumers and dead-letter queues. You learn to build event-driven architectures with Azure Event Grid and CloudEvents, and to implement serverless inference endpoints with Azure Functions.

Finally, we secure and observe the solution. You work with Azure Key Vault for secrets management, Azure App Configuration for centralized application settings and feature flags, and OpenTelemetry and Application Insights for distributed tracing, KQL-based log analysis, and alerting. Python is the primary language throughout the course.

After the course, you will be able to:

  • Build and deploy containerized AI applications to App Service, Container Apps, and AKS
  • Implement event-driven autoscaling with KEDA and optimize compute resources
  • Use pgvector in Azure Database for PostgreSQL for embeddings and semantic search
  • Implement caching, pub/sub, and vector search in Azure Managed Redis
  • Design event-driven AI workflows with Azure Service Bus and Event Grid
  • Build serverless inference endpoints with Azure Functions and managed identity
  • Manage secrets and application settings with Key Vault and App Configuration
  • Instrument AI solutions with OpenTelemetry and analyze telemetry in Application Insights

The course is ideal if you work as a backend or cloud developer and need to build AI-powered applications on Azure, or if you are preparing for the AI-200 exam and the Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate certification.
